  • GATE identified students at George White are cluster grouped with other GATE students in fourth and fifth grade.  Cluster grouping children of unique social and emotional needs allows them to collaborate and be challenged with their peers of the same age.  GATE teachers are specifically trained to differentiate the curriculum and frequently assess their students in order to meet or exceed the Common Core State Standards in all content areas.  All GATE students gain knowledge through a number of engaging methods such as tiered lessons, anchor activities, Thinking Maps, multiple texts, small group directed instruction, and icons.  Icons, also known as learning prompts, were developed by Sandra Kaplan and are a part of the Depth and Complexity Model.  These icons include prompts such as patterns, details, big ideas, ethics, multiple perspectives, unanswered questions, etc., and promote a deeper level of understanding.  To receive updates and more information about the GATE program, please visit
